Two young men from Spring Valley were arrested Monday on suspicion of using slingshots to break windows on business storefronts in La Mesa, police said. Aaron Thomas Lee Puttmann, 22, and Christian Martin Weatherspoon, 23, were arrested shortly after 1 a.m. after an officer saw them break a window at Advance Exteriors on University Avenue, La Mesa police Lt. Allen White said. The officer observed the vandalism while en route to McCrea Music on Allison Avenue, where a witness had just reported seeing two young men in the area breaking windows, White said.
Puttmann and Weatherspoon were found to have steel
ball bearings and wrist slingshots that were purchased hours earlier at a Wal-Mart store, White said. Damage to both businesses was estimated at $3,000. Puttmann and Weatherspoon were taken to San Diego County Jail, where they were booked on suspicion of vandalism over $400 and conspiracy, White said.
