Gassville looks at water meter deposit raise

The city of Gassville is considering an increase in water meter deposits.

At this week's Gassville City Council meeting, council members considered an ordinance to raise water meter deposits from $45 to $100, said Gassville Recorder/Treasurer Wan-da Watson. The council tabled the ordinance instead of moving it ahead to another reading.

Another change proposed in the ordinance would shorten the time allowed for water bills to be paid, moving the date they are due forward from the 30th day of each month to the 20th day.

The city council adopted two resolutions, one reconciling final 2009 revenues and expenditures, and the other setting out the city's budget for 2010.

John Eberhard, a property owner in Gassville, spoke to the council about possible future rezoning of a group of cleared properties on the north side of U.S. Highway 62 where residences formerly stood to commercial zoning.

Eberhard was concerned about the one-year limit from the time a petition for commercial zoning was submitted to the planning commission until it was developed, Watson said.
