Camp Hill water main break

A 12 inch water line broke on North 21st Street in Camp Hill around 7:30 Wednesday night.

The break flooded the Route 11/15 at the Camp Hill By-pass and forced the closure of east bound lanes of 11/15 heading towards the Harvey Taylor bridge to go into Harrisburg.

Camp Hill Mayor Lou Thieblemont told CBS 21 the borough's primary concern was getting 11/15 back open into time for the Thursday morning commute.

Pennsylvania American Water Company manager Joseph Woodward told CBS 21 that they will not be able to determine the exact cause of the break until they reach the pipe below 21st Street.

Wednesday was the day that the company began increasing water pressure in Camp Hill borough after a 30 days injunction had expired.

Camp Hill had sought the delay in order to allow residents time to install pressure relief valves.

The broken pipe was reportedly installed in the 1940's.

Pennsylvania American Water has been in the process of replacing many water pipes through the region.

Camp Hill has petitioned the Public Utility Commission earlier Wednesday to issue an emergency order to stop the water pressure increase.

The water company said that it already begun increasing the pressure and that it would issue the a response.
